The original exponents of garage country and genuine inhabitants of the far away republic of OUTBACKISTAN, The Roadtrippers are an acclaimed ensemble from Far North Queensland that present a pastiche of country ballads, garage rock and post punk raves all anchored in the myths and mires of the savannah tropics. Praised by Richard Fidler of ‘The Conversation Hour’ as a blend of “The Doors meets Jack Kerouac & Slim Dusty,” The Roadtrippers have established a unique niche within Northern Australia’s music scene The core members grew up and still live in the Cooktown region of southern Cape York Peninsular. Songwriter Gavin Dear melded this wild bunch together in 2004 with the express idea of forming a platform of songs about northern Australia taking inspiration from the Warumpi Band and Slim Dusty. It didn't quite come out that way as the wild bunch were indeed wild! The now cult album "100 Smokes to Kununurra" was recorded and released in 2005, followed by the double album "Open Country Demon Country" in '09, "Outbackistan" in '15 and their new release in 2024 "Obey the Speed Limit if you're Breaking the Law". 'the Roadtrippers occupy their musical landscape with humour and flair - and are proud holders of numerous bar records throughout the Far North'. "A band of black and white friends that melded together far from the big cities with musical isolation as their main influence"
